A New Project to Train Master's Students in Environmental Engineering Launched as Part of the “Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy”
On February 18–19, Kimyo International University in Tashkent (KIUT) hosted the kickoff meeting of the GREENDT project under the Erasmus+ program. The project is titled "Implementing Master’s Programs in Environmental Engineering Through Sustainable Transition and Societal Transformation."
The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, the Ambassador of the European Union to Uzbekistan, His Excellency Toivo Klaar, as well as representatives of partner universities from Uzbekistan and Europe. The speakers highlighted the importance of the project, its role in integrating education with industry, and its contribution to enhancing the knowledge and skills of young professionals.
As noted, the GREENDT project is expected to be a key step in improving the quality of education in environmental engineering, expanding international cooperation, and promoting sustainable development.
For reference: The project is coordinated by the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (IPVC, Portugal).
The primary goal of GREENDT is to enhance the knowledge and competencies of university faculty and students in Uzbekistan, with experience-sharing initiatives involving universities from the European Union. The project supports sustainable development and environmental protection in alignment with the European Commission’s Green Deal priorities.
The project aims to achieve the following results:
🔹 Establish Master’s degree programs in Environmental Engineering at participating universities in Uzbekistan;
🔹 Develop 12 new academic courses and develop educational materials;
🔹 Set up 5 new laboratories (at KIUT, JizPI, FerPI, ASTI, CAGU);
🔹 Launch a free E-learning platform for all students;
🔹 Create a web platform to provide information on project activities, meetings, training sessions, webinars, and key events;
🔹 Develop an E-community platform to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable development in Central Asia;
🔹 Expand student exchange opportunities.
