Historical memory as the moral foundation of a nation’s future
On March 12, a group of professors, teachers and more than one hundred students led by the Rector of Kimyo International University in Tashkent, Prof. A.B. Allakuliev, visited the State Museum of the Memory of Victims of Repression and the “Shahidlar Khotirasi” Memorial Complex in Tashkent.
The main purpose of the visit was to study and promote the lives and activities of our compatriots who became victims of political repression and to preserve their memory for future generations. Understanding history is not merely learning about past events; it is also about comprehending the moral experience of a nation and drawing important lessons for the future.
During the visit, students closely explored the museum exhibitions and gained detailed information about the political repressions carried out in our country during the 1930s and 1940s. Archival documents, photographs and personal belongings of thousands of people who were unjustly accused, imprisoned and executed during that period made a deep impression on the students.
The visit was organized in the format of an educational and cultural lesson. Professors of the university’s History Department together with museum specialists provided students with valuable insights into the difficult and tragic events of that era, based on historical documents, photographs and archival materials. Such initiatives help develop not only knowledge but also a responsible attitude toward national history among young people.
The students also visited the “Shahidlar Khotirasi” memorial complex, where they paid tribute to the memory of ancestors who sacrificed their lives on the path to freedom and independence. The atmosphere of the memorial allowed students to reflect deeply on the lessons of history.
At the end of the visit, students shared their impressions in a discussion led by the Rector. It was emphasized that studying national history, respecting the legacy of ancestors and strengthening a sense of responsibility for the destiny of the homeland are essential for educating the younger generation.
Such educational visits remind young people of an important truth: freedom, peace and independence are never achieved easily. Therefore, preserving historical memory and learning from the past remains a vital duty of every generation.
