Translation Theory and Practice (Turkish language)

The Translation Theory and Practice (Turkish Language) bachelor’s program at Kimyo International University in Tashkent is designed to prepare highly qualified specialists capable of professional written and oral translation between Turkish, Uzbek, and English languages, while effectively managing intercultural communication in international professional environments.
The program combines theoretical knowledge with practical training, gradually developing students’ competencies in language, style, pragmatics, professional communication, and modern translation technologies.
Its primary goal is to prepare competitive professionals for multilingual translation environments where Turkish is taught as the main foreign language and English serves as an additional professional language.

Throughout the program, students develop expertise in:

  •  written and oral translation
  •  simultaneous interpreting
  •  literary and audiovisual translation
  •  translation of scientific texts
  •  translation editing and quality assessment
  •  CAT tools and digital translation technologies
  •  intercultural communication

Curriculum Overview
The program is a 4-year bachelor’s degree consisting of 160 credits and 240 ECTS. The curriculum integrates Turkish language studies, English language training, translation theory, practical translation, interpreting, literature, research methodology, and professional internship components.
During the first year, students build fundamental Turkish language skills through courses such as Turkish Language: Listening and Speaking, Turkish Language: Reading and Writing, English for Translators, and Introduction to Translation Studies.
In the second year, students deepen their theoretical and practical translation competencies through Practice of Translation, Theory of Translation, Computer-Aided Translation, Audiovisual Translation, and Turkish Philosophy and Literature.
The third year focuses on interpreting and professional communication. Students study Simultaneous Translation, Introduction to Interpreting, Translation of Mass-Media, and preparation modules for TOMER B1/B2 certification.
During the final year, students specialize in scientific translation, research methodology, and professional translation practice. The program concludes with Undergraduate Practice and either Graduation Research or a Final Cross-Disciplinary Examination.
International Cooperation and Educational Programs
Translation Theory and Practice (Turkish Language) is one of KIUT’s rapidly developing programs within the fields of languages and translation studies. The program was officially introduced into the university’s academic portfolio in 2024.
Among the university’s international partners, Istanbul Aydın University holds a special position, providing valuable opportunities for academic mobility and collaboration within the Turkic educational and cultural environment.
At the university level, students also benefit from:

  •  2+2, 3+1, and 1+1 programs with Varna University of Management
  •  academic exchange programs
  •  international educational formats

These initiatives help students gain international academic experience and prepare for the global labor market.
Career Opportunities and Diploma
Graduates of the program may pursue careers as:

  •  written and oral translators
  •  simultaneous interpreters
  •  language specialists in international and diplomatic organizations
  •  editors and media translators
  •  specialists in international communication and PR
  •  intercultural communication experts
  •  researchers in translation studies and linguistics

The program equips graduates with professional competencies in Turkish, Uzbek, and English communication, simultaneous interpreting, text analysis, terminology management, and the use of modern translation technologies.
Program Achievements
One of the program’s key strengths is its modern and practice-oriented curriculum. Courses such as Computer-Aided Translation, Audiovisual Translation, Corpus-Based Translation, Translation of Mass-Media, Translation of Scientific Texts, and Simultaneous Translation are fully integrated into the curriculum.
The inclusion of TOMER B1 and TOMER B2 preparation modules allows students to align their Turkish language proficiency with international certification standards.
The structured progression from translation theory to written translation, interpreting, and professional translation practice prepares graduates to meet real labor market demands.
KIUT is also developing a dynamic academic environment for language and translation students through translator clubs, writing laboratories, mentorship systems, and academic support platforms, ensuring students’ professional and personal growth beyond the classroom.
